Food Scale - is this over the top - or a kitchen tool that will help you get better results?

Ahhh the food scale… if you know me than you know I live by this baby! I started weighing my food when I was 18 years old. That is much longer ago than I am comfortable thinking about haha

It has played a HUGE role in my nutrition success over the past 13 years bodybuilding. As a trainer and coach however I found it to be harder than pulling teeth to get some clients on board to use one.

Its always the same conversation, “ food scale?!… issuing that a bit much?”. Followed by “ I don’t want to be carrying that thing around weighing everything I eat!”. Why is it such a hard concept for some people?

If this is your reaction to weighing food then boy am I glad you are here! I want to help you get some clarity to the importance and benefits of weighing your food. You will thank me later…trust me!

Most people know that on a very basic level weight loss means eating less, exercising more right? God I hope so because if not… you are in for a rude awakening my friend.

So many studies show that people, even those with knowledge about nutrition have a greater tendency to under report how much they eat. With one study done with a test group of nutritionist demonstrating this same result. Why would that be different in your case just getting started with weight loss?

Food scales take the guess work out of the equation, and honestly is not that hard to do. If you are signing up with a trainer, starting a new fitness program, or even just joining a gym I assume you plan to eat better too… right?

Is meal prep not a part of any good nutrition plan? That means you have control of how much of everything is in your meal prep.

Think about it is sitting your rubber made or Pyrex Tupperware on a food scale while your portion out your meals that much more work?

The answer is no!

Doing this will even give you a better understanding of what proper portion sizes look like. You will be shocked when you weigh out your normal table spoon of peanut butter for the first time. I can almost guarantee your eating more than just 1 table spoon.

When you are trying to achieve a fitness goal like losing 30lbs you will have to do some things outside of your comfort zone. I might hurt some feelings here but… your comfort zone is what got you in your current shape.

You might get some results in the short term by making 1 habit change like working out more, or making better food choices. But when you hit that plateau something as simple as a food scale could make the difference.
